Feeding the city 2050

The main idea of our project is to link food and education.

We are creating a place to learn about the importance of vegetables in the next future for the human consume and the way of cooking them. We are going to create an educational building for future chefs, but we also want to educate society, so we want it to be a public building with space for ‘students’ and citizens. The building is based on three concepts: EDUCATION, PRODUCTION and EXPERIMENTATION. We understand this building as part of an experiment and an experience. So, it will be developed based on this facts.

The building will have a production section in which we will produce all the elements needed for our final dishes. The students will be in charge of taking care of them, as part of their education. The second section of this process will be the classrooms in which students will received theory of the food, its process, ways of cooking, ways of presenting dishes…where they will gain knowledge. The third section will be the workspaces in which students could investigate with the row experiment products, study them physically, try different combinations of products…etc. Then, there will be a big kitchen, as the most important section of the building, in which start cooking them and apply the knowledge gained in the theory classes. The kitchen will be the place to and use all the other processes of the building. Then there will be a second workspace where students will create dishes with cooked products able to use them in the tasting spaces. And the final section will be the tasting spaces in which citizens after having the visit trough the building will taste different dishes, as part of education and experimentation.

This way, food production and education get mixed into a new experimental building in London.
